The restoration process involved a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques. Our skilled team began by carefully dismantling the deteriorated chimney stacks, ensuring each stone was catalogued for accurate reconstruction. In our workshop, we utilized both manual carving and CNC technology to produce new masonry pieces, allowing us to replicate intricate details with high precision and maintain the historical authenticity of the chimney stacks.

Extensive masonry carving was required to restore decorative elements to their original splendor. Our fixer masons then expertly reassembled the stacks on-site, employing traditional methods alongside modern engineering solutions to ensure structural stability. Our project and programme management teams worked closely with Lendlease to coordinate efforts, ensuring the restoration stayed on schedule and within budget.

Our in-house capabilities ensured consistency, quality control, and seamless integration throughout the project. Lyons Stonework’s ISO accreditations in quality management and environmental standards were pivotal in maintaining high standards and sustainability practices. Each stage of the restoration was rigorously checked and signed off by conservation officers, demonstrating our commitment to preserving the architectural heritage of Manchester Town Hall.

The successful completion of this restoration project not only preserved the historical and architectural integrity of Manchester Town Hall but also showcased Lyons Stonework’s dedication to excellence in heritage masonry. This project underscores our ability to deliver high-quality, bespoke masonry solutions while working collaboratively with top-tier contractors and adhering to stringent industry standards.
